Hair types and origins

Most of our Testamodella®'s are made with 100% natural human hair. However, we also offer models with mixed, protein, synthetic or yak hair. Please see the individual product descriptions for specific details.

Natural hair can be Indian, Chinese, or European. Our assortment also includes heads with hair derived from yak hair, protein hair, synthetic or mixed hair.

The natural hair used for our mannequins heads is mainly of Indian origin. In India, it is common for women to donate their hair as a sign of religious devotion at temples. This hair is then collected and distributed to manufacturers around the world.

This type of hair is used in the production of hairdressing heads because of the exceptional strength and durability that naturally characterizes it. In fact, this hair tolerates heat well and can be dyed with ease. Before use, they are washed, chemically treated, and subjected to a finishing process that includes bleaching and shade grading.

Protein hair is ideal for those looking for an alternative to natural hair. This protein fiber closely resembles human hair and is well suited for cuts and styling with heat tools. They are an economical and sustainable choice, but cannot be bleached, dyed or permed.

Caliven's synthetic fibers are high-quality fibers and are an economical solution for learning cutting and styling techniques. They are easy to work with, but like protein hair, they cannot be lightened, bleached, dyed, or permed.

Blended hair combines natural hair with high-quality synthetic or protein fibers. This combination allows for a more realistic treatment than fully synthetic or protein hair, offering excellent value for money. However, only the natural hair component can be lightened, bleached, dyed, or permed.

Yak hair, from the fur of these Asian cattle, is a unique option in our range. This hair is naturally white and pigment-free, making it ideal for vibrant or pastel coloring without the need for prior bleaching. They are less processed than human hair and provide an excellent base for color experiments. However, because they are finer and more delicate, they are more prone to shedding if brushed excessively. It is therefore recommended that color be applied immediately after the first use to minimize hair loss.

It is a common misconception that hairdressing heads can have lice or nits. The small white particles sometimes found on the hairline are actually polyurethane foam residue, easily removed with a comb. Because studio heads' hair has no blood or cuticle, it is impossible to harbor nits or lice. In addition, all of our Testamodella®'s undergo rigorous sanitization and fumigation processes before being put on the market, ensuring maximum hygiene and safety.

To correctly measure hair length on a Testamodella®, do not rely on the length of the hair at the nape of the neck. The lengths shown on our website and catalog refer to the average hair size from the fontanella to the tip. It is normal to find different lengths of hair implanted on the head, with shorter hair at the nape of the neck to create a natural gradation. This implantation method aims to simulate the appearance of full, unscaled hair, and should be considered a hallmark of quality and attention to detail.

It is common to observe slight hair loss when combing a new Testamodella® for the first few times. However, if after the first few washes or uses the hair loss is excessive or leaves areas of the head visibly bald, please contact us. You can reach us at +39 0444 340233, email sales@caliven.it or contact us via WhatsApp at +39 375 5695225 to report the problem.

During the manual hair implantation process, colored strands (red, white, or black) used to hold clumps of hair together may also occasionally be inserted. These strands do not affect the quality of the Testamodella® and can be easily removed or trimmed.

Once the hair has been implanted on the Testamodella® and the base has been filled with polyurethane foam, it is not possible to remove or replace the skin to implant new hair. This process ensures maximum durability and stability of the hair, but at the same time makes it impossible to replace it.
